Agricultural specialists

We need experienced agricultural specialists to develop strategies for increasing poor communities’ food security, reducing their vulnerability to climate change and increasing income.

Roles are generally longer term, ranging from one to two years, but we also have occasional short-term assignments for up to six months.

You’ll be qualified to degree or diploma level, with at least two years of experience (five years for short-term roles) in agricultural production and marketing, small-scale farm development, post-harvest production or agricultural/food regulations.

Experience of developing food security strategies, livelihood assessments and working with rural and agricultural communities is essential.

What you’ll be doing

You’ll be placed with a small, local NGO, a farm cooperative or a local government ministry.

The nature of your day-to-day work will obviously depend on the role, but might include things like training local farmers in better crop production, storage, processing and pest control techniques. You could also be working to develop and implement business plans, increase crops, develop new markets and add value to existing markets.
