Trusts and foundations

The support of trusts and foundations is crucial to achieving our vision of a world without poverty.

Partnering with VSO means you can help change people’s lives across the world by supporting:

  • a specific project
  • a country
  • a volunteer
  • an open donation for VSO to direct to where it is most needed.

What we offer

Trusts and foundations are integral to helping VSO bring people together to share their skills and to make the world a fairer place for all.

Our partnership can be customised entirely to your requirements – so we can deliver a positive difference through your investment.

We’ll keep you updated on the impact your donation has made, provide you with reports, case studies, films, images and organise visits to your funded project.

We will ensure that your grant reaches the people who are most in need to provide  marginalised women and men with an opportunity to work together to improve their lives.

Stavros Niarchos Foundation supports VSO in Ethiopia

The Stavros Niarchos Foundation is an international philanthropic organisation. While prominent in its support of Greek-related initiatives, the Foundation’s activities are worldwide in scope.

A grant from the Foundation (2010 – 2013) is supporting a VSO project to improve the school learning environment and teaching practices in Ethiopia.

Ethiopia is one of the poorest countries in the world, ranked 169 out of 177 on the UN Human Development index. Years of under-funding of education have led to low literacy levels, with only 42.7% of over 15s able to read and write.

Working closely with the government and with children, teachers, and parents within local communities, VSO has developed innovative child-centred learning practices into schools in Kolla Tembien district in Tigray region.

In this district alone, 656 teachers, 1,029 trainee teachers, and over 144,000 children will benefit.

Through the invaluable support of the Foundation, this district will become a hub for good practice in education provision, which will be fed into the Ethiopian Ministry of Education plans, improving education practice at a national level.
