Drawing on Experience
Returned volunteer David Green shares his experience of working with VSO by putting together a book of beautiful illustrations charting his career as a volunteer to becoming the Director of VSO from 1990 to 1999.
David Green has drawn and painted since he was a young boy. After leaving school he spent a year working as a VSO volunteer teaching at a school in the Punjab, Pakistan. His first job after qualifying was teaching art at a comprehensive school in Conisborough, South Yorkshire. He taught for five years before and then took the post of director at Children’s Relief International (CRI), a small charity based in Cambridge. CRI merged with Save the Children.
In 1990, David became director of VSO where he stayed for nine years until 1999, the year in which VSO sent over 2,000 volunteers to 60 countries to share their skills and experience. He was awarded the CMG for services to international development.
