Since 2007, Door to door fundraising has helped VSO raise millions of pounds in vital income. Because of the generous gifts from our supporters via direct debit, VSO are able to plan for the future and offer even more support to the world’s poorest countries. To help you understand who are fundraisers are, and how they work for VSO, meet one of our fundraisers – Dan Meredith.

Why do charities use door to door fundraising?

I believe charities use door to door fundraisers because it’s a cost effective and more direct way of informing potential supporters about the charity’s cause. With VSO, we help spread the word about the charity’s unique approach, and show how regular gifts make such a difference.

What do you like about VSO?

I like the fact that VSO send people overseas. The trained professionals who share their skills can benefit thousands of people by training local doctors, teachers orengineers in the toughest areas of the world.

VSO work by people sharing knowledge, so it’s great to be a part of that process by sharing my knowledge with the supporters whose generosity allows VSO to send volunteers.

What’s the most interesting/ inspiring encounter you had whilst on VSO?

Meeting people who have worked overseas with VSO. The charity started in 1958, so we get to meet people who volunteered as far back as the 1960s. They have some incredible stories about the people they have helped.

Where do you work?

I work around Berkshire, Oxfordshire and Hampshire but there are other VSO fundraisers working hard to spread the word across the UK.
