Education
Our largest area of work is improving the quality of and access to learning opportunities.
The English for Education College Trainers (EfECT) programme, delivered with partners DFID and the British Council, is in place in universities and colleges throughout the country to build up the capacity of the next generation of primary, middle and high school teachers.
The EfECT project engages 21 of VSO’s current 26 in-country international volunteers. Less than a year in, it is already seen by partners and education professionals as highly effective. Research and first-hand feedback indicate that achievements exceed expectations, with satisfaction being expressed all-round at results to date.

Health
Our health programme focuses on maternal, reproductive and newborn health, with the vision that “in Myanmar, every woman has a right to have the children she wants (number and timing), to have a healthy and safely delivered baby and make sure her children survive and thrive.”
Our goals are to enable pregnant woman and children to receive quality maternal and child health services from skilled and competent staff, and to enable youth and adolescents to make informed decisions on sexual and reproductive health and to access quality services.

Civil society
Our volunteers contribute to the organisational strengthening of civil society organisations – groups of people trying to organise for improvement and change in areas such as natural resource management, women’s empowerment and disability.
The very successful Amatae project, in partnership with the British Council, has entered its second phase, and a new project is due to start in late 2015 funded by USAID. Additional volunteers are urgently required to assist these exciting emerging groups in their development.
