Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency
The Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) is an important supporter of VSO’s work on HIV and AIDS in Southern Africa.
VSO’s Regional Health and AIDS Initiative for Southern Africa (RHAISA) has received support from the Swedish International Development Cooperation Agency (SIDA) for grants in countries including Lesotho, Malawi, Mozambique, Swaziland, Namibia, South Africa, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
Sub-Saharan Africa remains the epicentre of HIV and AIDS in the world and the disproportionate effect of this on women’s health and wellbeing is unfortunately well known. Income is a significant determinant of health and our SIDA-funded GENDER programme works at the intersection of health and livelihoods, promoting sexual and reproductive health rights and income generating opportunities for women.
To achieve maximum impact, VSO RHAISA works in an integrated fashion with stakeholders ranging from SADC parliamentarians to community based organisations; from health centre workers and school counsellors to company employees and mentors.
