Volunteering

Newly Qualified Teachers

VSO believes every child has a right to an education.

In 2000, 164 governments committed to achieving Education for All, and VSO works in countries across Africa, Asia, the Pacific region and the Caribbean to support this aim. By volunteering with VSO and sharing your valuable professional skills and passion for learning with local colleagues, you can make a tangible difference to the lives of some of the world’s poorest communities.

Interested in volunteering? You’ll need at least 2 years’ teaching experience

In order to make a significant impact, we look for teachers with at least 2 year’s work experience for our standard, 1-2 year voluntary placements. Once you have obtained the necessary experience, we would be delighted if you would consider applying for a VSO placement. In addition to sharing and enriching your skills within another culture, recent research from the University of Southampton highlights that volunteering has significant professional benefits:

74% of volunteers said that the experience provided them with their first taste of management.

50% of those returning to the education sector had moved into more senior roles.

Youth for Development (YfD) is a one-year overseas programme that let’s young people work with VSO’s partners in any one of the 34 countries we work in.
