You'll integrate with a small African community

ELT Volunteer Jobs in Eritrea

Teach English in a junior school:

We're looking for qualified English teachers with at least 3 year's teaching experience with a real emphasis on working with others and an interest in teacher training. As well as classroom teaching in rural junior schools, you'll be expected to provide methodology training on a small scale in collaboration with Methodology Trainers in the area. Children in remote areas are particularly excluded from education programmes and these placements are a great opportunity to make a real difference, while integrating into a small African community. You'll need to be happy to live and work in a remote area, be culturally sensitive and have a flexible approach.

Become an English Methodology Trainer:

If you're a qualified English Teacher with at least 5 years' teaching experience you could improve teaching methodology in primary and junior secondary schools. You'll provide in-service training on basic teaching methods.

Five facts about Eritrea

  • Eritrea was an Italian colony from the 1890s to 1941, and Cappuccinos and pasta still dominate in the restaurants and cafes.
  • If you do go for a coffee, it’s roasted and ground for you there and then. You can drink one cup or three, but never two!
  • Eritrea has no official language. The evening news is read in Tigrina, Tigre, Arabic and English.
  • Eritrea has a beautiful coastline, stretching over 1,000 kilometres along the Red Sea.
  • In 2001, only 36% of school-aged girls completed primary school.
